The food items and dollars raised during the Harvest for Hunger drive in April help 51 food pantries and agencies throughout Lake County.
These food pantries and agencies depend upon community efforts to help feed families and senior citizens in need.
All food and dollars raised stay in Lake County.
In 2010, United Way collected, together, more than 50,000 pounds of food and more than $56,000 to feed our neighbors.
Juvenile Court Magistrate Jason Wuliger and his family challenged Lake County to raise additional funds by matching, dollar for dollar, all monetary donations up to $10,000. UWLC capped their match at $20,000!
In 2009, 2-1-1 experienced 6,521 food-related calls from families and senior citizens in Lake County. This represents a 9% increase from 2008.
Salvation Army serves on average 125 individuals daily from their soup kitchen. This most likely is the only nutritional meal they will have that day.
