March 26, 2015 - Mentor, OH - As part of the 2015 Feed Lake County Campaign, United Way of Lake County distributed 648 hams Thursday morning to 48 food pantries across the county. The hams will then be distributed to families in need in time for Easter.
The need for food in Lake County continues to grow as 2-1-1 reported 10,879 calls for food in 2014, which was an increase from 8,342 calls for food in 2013.
The 648 hams will provide meals for nearly 3,900 people.
The hams were purchased at and delivered by Giant Eagle to United Way of Lake County's Mentor office. From there, volunteers from Lake-Geauga Recovery Center distributed the hams to the food pantries as they came to pick them up.
So far, more than 110 companies, schools and organizations have signed up to run food drives to help Feed Lake County.
