United Way of Lake County Appoints Dione DeMitro New President & CEO

Dione DeMitroMentor, OH (August 4, 2022) – United Way of Lake County (UWLC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dione DeMitro as President and CEO. Ms. DeMitro will assume the role on August 15, 2022.

The executive committee of UWLC’s board formed a hiring committee and conducted an extensive search this past spring when the position became available.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dione as the organization’s new leader during a watershed moment in the history of United Way of Lake County as we celebrate our 100-year anniversary. Dione is exceedingly passionate about community and is well-known throughout Lake County for her many years of philanthropic service. She has also been an enthusiastic contributor to mission-driven organizations and her skills, leadership abilities, and commitment to giving back will be incredibly valuable as we continue our strategic direction,” said United Way of Lake County Board Chair Michelle Graf.

“I am truly excited to be joining the team at United Way of Lake County, especially as we celebrate its 100 years of positively impacting the community” said DeMitro. “I’m looking forward to working with our community partners, donors and volunteers to continue to develop and implement strategies to increase our capacity and leverage our resources to be of greatest service to Lake County.”

DeMitro is a lifelong resident of Lake County and a graduate of Harvey High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science from Allegheny College and a Master’s in Education Administration from Cleveland State University.

She started her career as a high school biology teacher for Mentor Public Schools.

DeMitro then served at Lakeland Community College for fourteen years, transitioning from the college as the Director of the Non-Profit and Public Service Center. During this time, she assisted numerous nonprofits, including Leadership Lake County, in developing strategic plans and providing board governance training.

From here DeMitro went on to serve as Vice President of Burges & Burges Strategists with a focus on assisting school districts and municipalities with strategic planning services. Most recently, DeMitro served as Vice President of Operations for DeJohn Funeral Homes.

Over the course of her career, DeMitro spent much of her time volunteering for organizations including UWLC, where she has served on their campaign cabinet and as a volunteer on their community investment committees. This past spring, she raised donations during the organization’s largest annual fundraiser while serving as one of their “Community Hijinx Heroes.”

She recently spent two years chairing the “Dancing Under the Stars” fundraiser for Lifeline and Family Planning and has also volunteered at the Lake County YMCA where she received an award for her work.

DeMitro has also served on the Lake County ADAMHS board, the Leadership Lake County board, the Rabbit Run Community Arts Association board, the Mentor Schools Advisory Council, and the board for the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She currently serves on the James A. Garfield Alliance board and the advisory board for Lake Catholic High School.
