Emerging Leaders of United Way of Lake County Host 11th Annual Golf Outing August 30, 2024 and Announce the Awarding of $40,000 in Grants
Mentor, OH (September 5, 2024) - The Emerging Leaders of United Way of Lake County hosted their eleventh annual Golf Outing Fundraiser on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Black Brook Golf Course in Mentor.
A total of 132 golfers attended the sold-out event in support of the Emerging Leaders purpose, raising record funds of over $33,000.
Emerging Leaders Chair Brad Shimko of Martinet Recchia CPA shared, "Our mission to uplift Lake County's youth is at the heart of everything we do. We focus on supporting programs that deliver vital services to the children of our community. We care deeply about the place we live and work, and I am incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to the day and to the golfers who attended."
The Emerging Leaders of United Way of Lake County seek to be catalysts for change in the lives of Lake County youth through leadership, advocacy, knowledge, and education in order to facilitate positive behaviors that will create tomorrow’s leaders. They work toward this, in part, via the support of 501(c)(3) and nonprofit organizations in Lake County with grants that promote a similar mission geared toward youth.
Funds raised from the golf outing support their annual grant awards program. During the event, they announced their 2024 grant allocations, which total $40,000 and were awarded in support of the following nonprofit programs:
• $10,000 to Torchlight Youth Mentoring Alliance’s Community-Based Mentoring Program
• $10,000 to Lifeline’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library Early Childhood Literacy Program
• $10,000 to NAMI Lake County’s Ending the Silence Program
• $10,000 to Youth United Way’s Grant Allocation Awards Program which allows students going through the program to determine which nonprofit programs will receive the grant dollars
This is the Emerging Leaders’ ninth grant funding cycle, which began in 2016. Since this time, they have awarded a total of $186,154 in grants, which includes this year’s allocations.
The group was established in 2014 by a core group of United Way volunteers. Their purpose includes engaging, empowering, mentoring and supporting the youth of Lake County in the achievement of their goals and is accomplished through the group’s philanthropic efforts of giving, advocating, and volunteering.
The Emerging Leaders raise donations in support of their grant program primarily through their annual golf outing, made possible by this year’s headline sponsor, Paul Davis Property Restoration.
According to United Way of Lake County President & CEO Dione DeMitro, " Even with the heat, it was a fantastic day, and it was gratifying to see such a strong turnout to support youth-based initiatives. I'm especially grateful to all our sponsors and to the amazing team at Leolo Hospitality for providing our guests with a delicious breakfast and lunch.”
In addition to headline sponsor Paul Davis Property Restoration, other sponsors included Secure Recycling, Dollar Bank, Martinet Recchia CPA, Stanley Steemer, The Kilbourne Family, SMART Local #33, Leolo Hospitality, Willoughby Hills Auto Repair, Mentor Nissan, Xpress Printing Services, Lintern Corporation Worldwide, Crossroads Health, Keller Williams Greater Cleveland Northeast, Today’s Family Magazine, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, and more.
